Drones: weighing the pros and cons
The use of drones has grown immensely, with the American air force now training more drone operators than fighter and bomber pilots. Willemijn Verkoren (director at CICAM) problematizes the use of drones by the American military, especially outside of war situations. The advantages are obvious: the complete reduction of risk; the length of time that drones can stay in the air. But what are the consequences for the ethics of war when one side bears all the risk? And how are drones being used?
