The Islamic State: Tunisia’s response to the threat

“We need an early warning system within communities in Tunisia”

Dr Moncef Kartas elaborates on the role the Tunisian government can take to prevent young people from joining the Islamic State. Rather than just having security forces in charge of preventive deradicalization projects, Dr Kartas argues for a joint approach of community policing, in which the police, mosques and communities cooperate.
The interview was conducted on January 22, 2015. Dr Kartas visited the Netherlands to partake in a panel on ‘Guns and Borders: Libya’s Arms Bazaar Fueling Conflicts in the Arab World’ as part of the Henriette van Lynden lecture series organized by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
