When is Armed Intervention the Solution?
In an opinion-piece in Volkskrant, a Dutch daily, Willemijn Verkoren (director at CICAM) agreed with the Russian president Putin that an armed intervention is seldom the solution to conflict. My question: so when is an armed intervention justified? Verkoren distinguishes between different types of intervention, and reflects on their success. In determining whether to intervene in Syria, she argues that the main question should be: do we expect any improvement to come of it?
